Oh God, make worthy my voice,
Raise my speech to Your loftiness
As it would be a foolish choice
To rely on my cleverness.

From when I wake from my sleeping
And until the day has long died,
I am captive to my weeping
And a prisoner to my pride.

When I sleep and no dreams come,
And I am like a corpse deceased,
Only then do I have freedom
From torment and am thus released.

Give me the words for this prayer
Words I may use to beg of You.
Comfort my soul with Your warm air
And then make my spirit anew.
